US climber Emily Harrington started off 2024 well, sending Alien vs. Predator (8b+) on January 9, her hardest route after becoming a mother.

It took Emily seven days of projecting until she made the send. It was also her hardest route since October 2021, when she repeated Stockboy’s Revenge (8c) in Rifle.

The climb, situated at La Madres in Nevada, was flashed by Jonathan Siegrist in April 2023. This was possible with some key beta from Alex Honnold, who was already working the route and established the second ascent on the same day.

In her Instagram post, she described the process of climbing Alien vs. Predator as a satisfying project that needed some fighting and good vibes to finish, but she is grateful for being able to get back into the world of climbing after two years.

One of the most versatile climbers in the world, Emily is a five-time US Lead National Champion, having also participated in the IFSC World Cup circuit until 2011. Among the greatest ascents under her belt,, we can mention climbing El Cap’s Golden Gate (7c+) in one day and being the fourth woman to free climb El Cap in a day.
