Reporting from his instagram page, Adam Ondra managed to send Croatia’s hardest route, “B je to!” (9b) just last weekend, on the 30th of September.
Located in the limestone Vranjača cave in the Paklenica region, “B je to!” is the harder brother of “A je to!”, a 9a/+ route that Adam also bolted at the same time as B je to during a summer family trip to Croatia.
It took Adam a relatively quick two days to clip the chains of this route, establishing the hardest sport route in the country.
Regarding grading, Ondra says that 9b would be a good grade, as it suits him in terms of style and difficulty. As he described it, compared to “A je to!” which is more of a super endurance route with hard moves, “B je to!” features a very hard crux move which gave him a tough fight.
The initial route “A je to!” means “It’s an A!” was named after Adam’s favorite Czech cartoon as a child. He declared that if “B je to!” would be downgraded, then a new name for the route would have to be established!
With this send under his belt, the Czech super-star has twenty eight 9b climbs out of which 21 were first ascents. Simply, mental!
